What is Serial Casting?
- A non-invasive approach to improve ankle range
of motion, correct joint alignment, and encourage
weight bearing through the heels for a variety of
diagnoses including toe walking, cerebral palsy,
arthrogryposis, spina bifida, club foot, traumatic
and acquired brain injuries, and muscular
dystrophy. - Often tried before any surgical intervention is
recommended

Why Would My Doctor Recommend Serial Casting?
- To improve range of motion at the ankle
- To help with achieving heel contact when standing and walking
- To improve alignment of the foot and leg when standing and walking
- To improve the fit of braces
What is the Process?
- Therapist will perform an evaluation to assess walking, range of motion, and strength
- Serial casting and cast changes will occur every week for 6-8 weeks based on progress with range of motion
- Bracing and active physical therapy following the completion of serial casting
